Career not going anywhere? Do you feel as though you need a change? Would you like to try a new direction?
Whether you stay where you are or move on to greener pastures, it is good to choose your goals consciously. When you get clarity on what you want and what you want to achieve, and have articulated goals, then you will find that you move in the right direction towards success. Sometimes you are not quite sure what you should do and feel as though you are caught between a rock and a hard place. Maybe work relationships are ok but you aren’t sure where you can go with a promotion or even a sideways move. Maybe you feel as though you have hit the glass ceiling. Perhaps relationships with colleagues could be better. Maybe you feel your attitude towards your work is not like it used to be and you aren’t as happy in it. Sometimes it just might feel as though you are going through the motions and not getting much satisfaction from your job. These are all signs that it might help to look at your career goals and work out what it is that you want to do in your employment and in your career. Maybe it’s time for a big change or perhaps all it needs is a small change. Whatever the situation, sorting out your career goals is a good investment for future happiness.
Maybe it’s time to go for that dream of yours, or perhaps it’s time to think outside the square so that you find more fulfilment in your work. On the other hand, maybe you need to find fulfilment in the rest of your life outside of work in order to find happiness. All these aspects can be discussed and worked on through life coaching. Reach your potential in each life area and be your best.
Make the best decisions for you and your future through conscious choice rather than choice by default, or impulsivity. If you have worked out your career goals then you know where you are headed and can make better decisions so you end up where you want to be.
If you are middle aged and unemployed then perhaps you need to be creative and create your own employment through direct marketing of your skills to companies, or by going into business. Either way, sorting out your life goals and marketing your skills will improve your chances of success. I found myself in this position and I have changed my life around as a result of going into business using qualifications gained previously. You can do it too. It might take some time but it is possible to change your life around.
Even if you are satisfied with where you are at present, sorting out a career plan that you can follow in the years ahead may be helpful. If you have a plan, you know where you want to go and have an idea of how to get there. You have career goals to achieve over time and these can be very important in the process of deciding which path to follow. If your goals are in writing, so much the better. Sometimes it can be helpful to sort out your goals with a life coach. Together you can work out goals for you that are SMART – specific, measurable, attractive, realistic and time framed. Then work out the action steps or strategies to achieve the goals.
Working on your career goals can be of benefit to you and your family, but most of all to you. Plan, set goals and achieve them!
